Leave loading is an additional payment on top of your normal leave pay — typically 17.5% of your ordinary time rate. It was originally designed to compensate workers who missed overtime pay while on leave.

Entitlement depends on your award, enterprise agreement, or employment contract. Many Modern Awards include 17.5% loading. Shift workers may receive 25% or their usual penalty rates (whichever is higher). Not all workers are covered.
